from space.
The World Islands and The Universe are constructed in the shape of their namesakes. The indoor ski
facility located inside the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, where a short walk will take you from hot
desert sand to snow. Aquaventure Waterpark has a free-fall slide (Poseidon’s Revenge) & an
underwater slide (Leap of Faith).

Emirates Film Location Permits

This is most important when you are planning to shoot in UAE the Shooting productions must apply
for permits through a local production house who take responsibility for all your shoot needs and
the production. The Emirates are film-friendly, so permits are generally very quick and easily
processed but only based on what you are shooting.

The Privately owned locations require additional permits which include the Burj Khalifa and Dubai
Mall.
Most importantly,

- The unauthorized filming at sensitive government locations as well as oil and gas
facilities are completely illegal.
- The following may not be filmed in the Emirates:
- Projects that involve nudity
- Promotion of alcoholic drinks
- Drone filming is possible in the Emirates but only after prior permission

When To Do The Shooting?

Since most of the Emirates has a desert climate characterized by
The weather there is like extreme heat during the day and an abrupt drop in temperature at night as
most of the emirates have such a desert climate. Very high temperature with dust storms is there in
June to August. Milder conditions are there from October to March whereas it is the best time to shoot
when it comes to shooting according to the weather.
During the holy month of Ramadan, many services remain close and making filming during this
the period is very difficult.

If your shoot is related to love of animals or anything related that then you can take the permission
and shoot The Emirates World Series Horse Race which is the world’s richest horse race, takes place
in April whereas the camel racing calendar runs from September to March.

Costs: In the Middle East, The Emirates are one of the more expensive countries. Hotels get very
expensive during the peak season. Standard shoot day costs are comparable with that of South
Africa. The local deals can be negotiated by our Emirati team/service producer and can provide the
appropriate level of production support to match every budget and according to the need of the
director.

Tax Incentives: A 30% cash-back rebate on productions is offered by The Abu Dhabi Film Commission,

Film Crew & Talent

Crews: The Emirates has a good quality of local and expat directors, stills photographers & directors
of photography. Many experienced foreign crew including well-known faces have relocated to Dubai
so there is a good depth of impressive locally based crews along with models and cars. Both main
and supporting crews speak fluent English and Hindi too, they all work to an international standard.

Talent is non-union and buyouts are negotiable. Talent costs are by western standards as they are
quite competitive and negotiable. The Emirates has a very good variety of locally and abroad based
multicultural talent, you just have to raise your demand and it will be available for the shoot. Many
are foreigners who have relocated to Dubai to explore themselves. There is a shortage of good talent
over the age of 50 but can be available if the list of requirements is given well before the shoot.

Emirates Film Equipment

If you’re looking at bringing in your own gear then The Emirates is an ATA carnet country. If you are
looking to rent a drone then it can only be rented from a local supplier that is registered with the
General Civil Aviation Authority. It is not at all possible to bring in your own drone equipment.

Art Department, Studios, Backlots, & Post Production

Art department and set construction. The Emirates has a reasonably good set design which can be
shot as it is, and also have dressing and SPFX crews.
Studios: The most advanced soundstages in the Middle East and North Africa are there is Dubai
Studio City which is the home to this kind of work. The studio complex also includes modern editing
suites, hair and make-up, production offices, workshops, dressing rooms, water tanks, warehouses,
and a backlot.

Backlots: The Khalifa Industrial Zone has a 19th century Jeddah available for the shoot

There is no film lab in the Emirates as compared to Mumbai as it has the closest lab for film
processing 35mm and 16mm.

Visas & Work Permits

Crews traveling on most Western passports can enter the Emirates visa-free with no hustle or can
obtain visas on arrival. There is no need for work permits as of now.

Transport & Accommodation

Transportation Infrastructure is all up to more than expected world standards. The Emirates have a
very new and modern transportation infrastructure that can be experienced once you are in UAE.
Many airlines service the Emirates internationally including direct flights from Los Angeles to Abu
Dhabi and many more flights depending on the need.

Accommodation: November to May can be very expensive for hotels as they are the peak season. It
is more cost-efficient and easy to book hotels online than to book through the Emirates. Contact us
